The Glander Scholarship Winners
The Glander Scholarship Winners
To the Editor:
Because of a communication snafu, I did not attend the awards ceremony this year to announce the recipients of the Bob Glander/Newtown Babe Ruth Scholarship. I am happy and proud to announce that David Marcucilli and Christina Wolf are the recipients of this yearâs $1,000 scholarship award.
Dave, who is a member of this yearâs varsity baseball squad, is a fine young man, who exemplifies the spirit and sportsmanship that the scholarship was designed to recognize and reward. In addition to being a strong and versatile performer, he is always ready to jump in, do the job that is required of him, and do it well, while keeping his humor and spirit elevated. Dave will be attending Johnson State College in Vermont.
Christina Wolf, in a word, is a spit-fire. I have been watching her play softball and soccer for many years and have always been impressed by her tremendous energy. She is a member of this yearâs varsity softball team and from what I hear, she is a motivator and, regardless of the situation, keeps the fun in the game.
In addition, I want to thank the judges and all of the students who applied this year, the essays were wonderful and I wish you all luck in your college endeavors. I also want to especially thank Newtown Babe Ruth for funding the scholarship, which my children and I started in 1997, when Bob died. Every season, parents donate money with their regular registration, which goes to funding the scholarship, and I thank all of you who have donated and consequently have enabled us to keep the scholarship going.
