Who Was The Good Samaritan?
Who Was The Good Samaritan?
To the Editor,
About two months ago, while my husband was away for a few days, I was elated to find his missing watch lying there in our driveway, none the worse for wear. Since I was right in the middle of taking our recycling out to the curb for pickup, I put the watch on the hood of my car in the garage for safe-keeping, until I had completed my task.
The next day, in a most Lucille Ball-sort-of-way, I drove off, completely forgetting that I had left Kevinâs watch lying on the hood of the car and it wasnât until much later that I realized, to my horror, what I had done. I immediately ran to the phone and put an ad in The Newtown Bee, describing the watch, explaining what had happened and along which roads I thought the watch might be lying, and, of course, our phone number. I was so hoping that someone might find it before he returned and I would simply have a âgood newsâ story to tell him. Well, unfortunately, no one found it, I received no calls and I had only a âgood news-bad newsâ story to tell him when he got home.
But wait! Thereâs more! Yesterday, when Kevin went out to get the mail, there was his watch, in our mailbox, in perfect condition, lying neatly on top of our pile of mail! We couldnât believe it! How was it even possible? You see, I never gave our address, I never even mentioned our names in the Lost and Found ad, so how on earth did the finder know to put the watch in our mailbox?
We are so grateful and delighted, of course, but absolutely mystified! Who is this Good Samaritan of ours and how did you know that the watch belonged to us? Please call us at 426-6819 and let us know who you are and what the real ending of this wonderful story is.
With much anticipation,
Gay Engelberger and Kevin McNally
