ART ECOSYSTEM TALK MARCH 18 AT SANTA MONICA MUSEUM
AVV 2-20 #729585
SANTA MONICA, CALIF. â The Santa Monica Museum of Art will present a discussion, âWhales and Minnows: Filling all the Niches in Artâs Ecosystemâ featuring LACMA director Michael Govan and chief art critic Blake Gopnik of The Washington Post on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 pm.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Santa Monica Museum of Art has invited an array of distinguished arts professionals to discuss unique models for the presentation of contemporary art in a series of talks presented throughout the year. This event is the first in the series.
The encyclopedic museum functions as a sanctuary for the recognized artists; the kunsthalle, on the other hand, can afford to take risks on artists and their work. To get a full picture of what art can be, one needs both models. Govan and Gopnik explore their essential coexistence and differences.
The program is free but reservations required by March 14; call 310-586-6488, extension 119.
