Gerald Frawley Honored For Long Service To The Town

The colleagues, friends and family of Gerald Frawley gathered November 20 at

The Fireside Inn to honor for him for 25 years of service as a local elected

official.

Last summer, Mr Frawley, a Democrat, stepped down as member of the Police

Commission, an agency which he had served on since 1976. He was chairman of

the commission from 1988 to 1990.

Mr Frawley served as a selectman from 1973 to 1976.

At the dinner attended by about 40 people, Mr Frawley thanked those who had

attended the fete.

First Selectman Herbert Rosenthal said Mr Frawley brought much expertise and

wisdom to the Police Commission while serving on it for the past 22 years.

"Gerald Frawley's ... years of service were invaluable to the Town of Newtown,

and through his efforts many difficult issues were managed properly and with

great care ... The Town of Newtown expresses its deep gratitude for his

dedication and his devotion to our community, and wishes him, his wife, Joyce,

and family the best in their future endeavors," the first selectman said.

Police Chief James E. Lysaght, Jr, said that although he has only known Mr

Frawley for two and one-half years, he is impressed with his personal

qualities.

"He always conducts himself as a gentleman," the chief said, noting Mr

Frawley's deep interest in the welfare of the community and police officers.
