Kevin’s Community Center

To the Editor:

Kevin’s Community Center held its “Grand Opening” on Saturday, August 9, with several dignitaries and members of the community in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony. It has been almost a year since we dreamed of opening a medical clinic for any uninsured and poor adult Newtown residents.

The support my family and I have received from the community and professional providers in the surrounding area has been astounding. We could have never realized our dream without the many hours donated by our board members, Newtown businesses, clergy, town officials, and local residents. I want to thank you all for your generosity of time and financial gifts that have made this clinic a reality.

The clinic’s first day of operation is Wednesday, August 13, from 1 to 5 pm. We will be able to see up to 20 patients each week. We are looking forward to our first day and helping people in need of medical services.

I have found some solace in my personal grief knowing that I can help others. My hope is that Kevin’s memory will live on in the health Kevin’s Community Center will give to others. All Newtown residents have an open invitation to visit the center at any time.

Sincerely,

Z. Michael Taweh

Medical Director
