A Remarkable Young Man

To the Editor:

Our beloved son, Alexander “Chuck” Zachos, passed on June 22 after a lifelong battle with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the young age of 25. Alex was a remarkable young man who always wore an incredible smile despite the challenges he faced throughout his life. He was a terrific brother to his younger sister Abigail.

We moved here in 1995 after interviewing numerous school districts to see who would best help to care for our son’s educational needs. Newtown by far seemed to be the most generous and giving. They did everything they had promised and more. Additionally, the school staff and kids in school were always so kind to “Chuck” (the name the school staff and classmates knew him by). For that we will be eternally grateful. The parents of Newtown should be so proud of their children as they helped to make his life so happy and wonderful.

What we also learned was the people of this wonderful town were just as generous and giving. When Alex needed a wheelchair after he was no longer able to walk, you rallied around him to help him get that chair.

When we moved here in 1995 we had no idea how this town would touch our lives, but you did and we can never thank you enough.

Sincerely,

John and Ann Zachos
