Newtown Thistle 1, Old Greenwich 1: Emily Montoya and Brianna Lutz dominated the defensive end, keeping the ball near Old Greenwich’s goal for the majority of the game. Claire Beiter and Mia Katsuleres consistently dribbled and passed around Old Greenwich at midfield. Emily Neave lifted a hard shot into the top corner of the net for Newtown’s only goal. Alexandra Manoni and Alessandra Manfredi hustled and kept up offensive pressure during this tough, physical game in the heat.

Boys

U8

Blackhawks 2, Dynamo Kids 0: For the Dynamo Kids, Stephen Dooley played great in goal, and Aiden Finnegan and Ryan Nolan played well on defense. For the Blackhawks, Kyle Duval and Jonathan Liberante scored on well-placed shots. Devin Johnson and Jack McDermott each had a strong game on offense and defense. Darren Huffman and Sachin Mansukhani’s great efforts contributed to the team’s success.

 

U10

Net Rippers 2, Monroe 0: Josh Harper scored on a penalty shot and first-half goalie Nick Harper, and energetic Matt Gerbo lifted Newtown. A defensive wall built by Ryan Brello and Hunter Procaccini protected goalie Andy Greenwood in second half, while midfielders Adam Bergeron, Mark Hall, and Evan Eggleston continuously fed the ball to strikers Matt Booch-Bucci and Brendan O’Hara. A missile pass by Brendan O’Hara was rifled in by Booch, sealing the win.

U11

The Storm 3, Fairfield 1: Richard Ciamarra jumped-started The Storm attack with a blast from the top of the box. Michael Meyers, Sebastian Forero, Austin Engler, Shane Gattey, Nathan Augenbraun, and Thoams Leuci kept Fairfield on their heals all afternoon. The offense made consistently accurate passes that put Hayes Kelchner into position for his goal. Owen Samson closed out the day with a score off quality footwork that left players in his wake. After Fairfield’s quick score early in the game, Newtown’s defense of  Forest Weatherby, Connery Mayer and Jack Riley, led by Jamie Cochrane, completely shut down the opposition’s offense. Robert Katrinak played shut-down goal and Richard Ciamarra made acrobatic plays doing double duty in the second half as goalie.
