Softball All-Stars Battle In Nail-Biter
Following a thrilling championship game between winner Fireside and runner-up My Place, the Newtown Womenâs Softball League All-Star Game was held at Treadwell Park on August 19.
The Brown nipped the Blue team 12-11 in battle of top players representing Black Swan, My Place, Cork and Barrel, Duhamel, Salon Michele, and Fireside.
Rose Jackman, Kelly Teraszkiewicz, Lindsey Carley, and Lisa Masella all hit homeruns.
The Brown team took an early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning. Katie Mahoney hit a double in the fifth inning, drove in two runs, and eventually scored to tie the game 7-7.
Carol Anderson caught a ball at home plate thrown in from the outfield preventing the Blue team from scoring. Lindsey Carley and Julia Truchess helped the winning team by recording a double play late in the game.
Joanna Barry, Lauren McCusker, and Shelby Rotunda all made great defensive plays. Jackman, Teraszkiewicz, and Mahoney each scored three times. Carra and Taylor Buckley ran the bases well.
