Police charged a local youth with first-degree assault in a stabbing incident at a Currituck Road residence late on the night of November 24.
Police said they charged Brian Shepard, 18, of 1 Glover Avenue with first-degree assault, which is a Class B felony, following a fight which took place at the Johnson residence at 96 Currituck Road.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Michael Monroe, 25, of 12 Parmalee Hill Road, who was the victim, to Danbury Hospital. Monroe was treated at the hospital and later discharged, police said.
Police patrol officer Louis Ferreira said police received an emergency 911 call from the Johnson residence about 11:45 pm, in which the caller reported that someone had been stabbed there. Police and ambulance crews went to the scene.
On arriving, police saw a gathering of about 60 youths at the residence.
Police said they found Monroe inside a garage, where he was lying on his stomach and was conscious. Monroe was bleeding from âmultiple stab woundsâ to his back, police said.
Monroe told police who had stabbed him, police said. The ambulance corps then transported Monroe to Danbury Hospital for treatment of the wounds.
Shepard then approached the several officers who had been sent to the crime scene and he was taken into custody, police said.
Shepard had a cut on his left index finger, which apparently occurred when he was stabbing Monroe with a knife, police said. Shepard and Monroe had been involved in a physical altercation at the time of the stabbing, police said.
Police said Shepard was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was treated and then released, after which he was transported to the police station.
Police processed Shepard at the police station, charged him with first-degree assault, and placed him under a $25,000 bond.
Police released Shepard on that bond at 10:30 am November 25 for a December 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the first-degree assault charge.
