While on patrol near 51 Church Hill Road about 6:20 pm June 24, police said they stopped motorist John Peters III, 35, of 9 Arrowhead Lane for a cellphone violation.
After investigating, police said they issued Peters an infraction for illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving. Police said they also charged him with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police released Peters on a written promise to appear July 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
Mailbox Vandalism
Police report a rash of vandalism in which curbside mailboxes in various parts of town have been battered by someone wielding a baseball bat.
Either late on June 22 or early on June 23, individual mailboxes were vandalized on Bennetts Bridge Road and Toddy Hill Road.
Sometime between 7 pm on June 23 and 9 am on June 24 two mailboxes were vandalized on Middleton Road.
Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the incidents to contact them at the police station at 426-5841.
Three Charges
Police report that at about 3:27 pm on June 24, they stopped motorist Zachary Kline, 20, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee on Main Street, near its intersection with East Street.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Kline with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by a minor.
After processing, police released Kline on $100 bail for a July 9 court appearance.
