Happy Endings In Newtown
Happy Endings In Newtown
To the Editor,
Just a couple of tidbits about the quality of life in our town.
Last month we returned home to find that a faulty generator had spewed carbon monoxide throughout the house. The volunteers from the United Fire Company of Botsford arrived within minutes, put on their âspace suits,â and emerged from the house to inform us that the CO levels were double survivable amounts. Our kids were more than a little upset as they contemplated the fate of three cats locked inside. The firefighters spent considerable time searching the house for the cats so that the bodies could be disposed of without the kids having to see them. After much effort the cats were found in various hiding places â alive (a call to the vet confirmed that cats have higher tolerances). The scene outside our house as equipment-laden firemen presented the animals to two delighted little girls was delightful â right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. It was obvious that the firefighters were nearly as satisfied as the kids.
Several weeks ago while shopping at the Grand Union I dropped a keepsake gift which is made of gold and is quite valuable. As I was loading groceries in my car a gentleman came up to me to ask if the item belonged to me. He obviously had been searching for the owner.
