Beloved Mother

Della M. Cummings, 73, of Shelton, died August 28 in her home with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of Jack Cummings, with whom she would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary in September. Mrs Cummings was born in Devon, Conn., April 3, 1934, daughter of Floyd and Gladys Simpson Davenport and was a Shelton resident since 1956.

She was the beloved mother of Michael Cummings of Sandy Hook, David Cummings of Grass Valley, Calif., and Sandy Dunay of Tunkhannock, Penn. She was the sister of Charles Davenport of Kent, Wash., and Betty Smith of Fairfield. Mrs Cummings also leaves 11 cherished grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sons, Paul, Daniel, and Kenneth Cummings.

Mrs Cummings graduated Milford High School in 1953, was employed at Branson Ultrasonic for many years until her retirement in 1987. She was a nurses’ aide for more than five years at the Hewitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton and a volunteer at the Griffin Hospital Respiratory Department.

Calling hours were scheduled Thursday, August 30, from 4 to 7 pm, in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Friday, August 31, a funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 am with the Rev John Collins, pastor of the Huntington Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.

At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Hospital Respiratory Department, 130 Division Avenue, Derby CT 06418.
