Sandy Hook DUI
Motorist Richard E. Sanders, 29, of Danbury was driving a 1987 Subaru DL sedan westward on Route 34, near Great Ring Road, on the night of January 1, when the auto struck a tree along the eastbound road shoulder, police said.
Sanders then drove the vehicle about one-half mile westward to the area near Tanglewood Lane, where the auto became disabled, police said. Sanders was not injured in the accident, police said.
Police said they went to the area to investigate and charged Sanders with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and failure to drive to the right. Police additionally arrested Sanders on three drug-related charges ââ possession of narcotics, failure to keep narcotics in their original container, and tampering with evidence.
Because Sanders could not post a $5,000 bond, police held him overnight for arraignment the following day in Danbury Superior Court.
Flag Found
On January 2, a United States flag was found at Beckett Village, which is a residential subdivision off Bennetts Bridge Road in Sandy Hook. The owner may claim the flag at the police station at 3 Main Street.
Toddy Hill Accident
Motorist Jessica Carlson, 19, of Terryville was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier southward on Toddy Hill Road about 10:30 pm December 24, when she failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road, and struck a tree, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to evaluate Carlsonâs condition but made no patient transport, police said.
Police said they verbally warned Carlson for making a restricted turn.
