Two Of Three Missing Dogs Are Found
By Andrew Gorosko
Two of the three dogs who were reported missing and apparently stolen from a Currituck Road property on August 8, were found in good physical condition wandering along Edmond Road on August 14, and then returned by the town animal control officer to their owner.
Midday on August 14, a passerby reportedly spotted the two missing puppies along Edmond Road, an industrial street that runs parallel to Interstate 84. Edmond Road is in the general vicinity of the residential property from which the puppies were apparently stolen.
Still missing is a 2-year-old male Jack Russell terrier with black and white markings who answers to the name Black Jack, according to the owner. That dog needs to be on heartworm medication.
The owner expressed happiness that the two puppies were located and hopes that the third dog also will be found.
The owner said August 19 that there is no word yet about Black Jackâs whereabouts. âI am going to send out a picture with information on itâ to area veterinarians in seeking to learn if they have treated any dogs matching Black Jackâs description, said the owner, who prefers to remain anonymous.
âI was so ecstatic,â the owner said of the two puppies being found.
Based on the two puppiesâ good physical condition, it is apparent that the dogs had not been living outdoors since they were reported missing, the owner said. âTheyâre in great shape.â
The owner said that publicity about the three dogsâ disappearance may have prompted whoever took the animals to release two of them along Edmond Road so that they could be found and returned.
In a locally unusual incident, police reported August 12 that they were investigating the apparent theft of three friendly dogs from the Currituck Road property near Main Street on August 8, while the owner was away from the house.
Police Sergeant Aaron Bahamonde said that the owner had securely confined the three dogs outdoors in a fenced area on the property before leaving the premises. On returning, however, the owner discovered the three dogs to be missing. Police are investigating the incident as a larceny.
The puppies that were reunited with the owner on August 14 are a 5-month-old female short-haired black retriever mix puppy with the name Simone, and also Simoneâs 5-month-old brother, who is a tan male short-haired puppy mix of either a retriever/collie or a retriever/shepherd named Sammy.
All three dogs are rescue dogs who were removed from Georgia before they were to be euthanized.
The owner said on August 16 that the two puppies had already been placed with their new adoptive families. The still-missing missing Black Jack also was to have been placed with an adoptive family.
âWonder if I will ever see him again?â the owner asked, expressing hope that wherever Black Jack may be, that he is in a good environment.
Police are seeking the publicâs help in locating Black Jack. Police Officer Bart Lorancaitis is investigating. He can be reached at the police station at 426-5841. The police tip line is 270-8888.
