Canopy Bed At Lincoln Gallery

with 6 cuts

ORANGE, N.J. -- Winter brought no "chills" to the auction room on Scotland

Road this February 15-17. Registration was brisk and the house was packed as

Reg T. Blauvelt opened up the bidding to the floor with furniture bringing

above average prices across the board. Vernis Martin lady's cycling

metal-mounted writing desk sold for $2,170, but the real "sleeper" was a

beautiful mahogany, four-post full-size canopy bed with pineapple and spiral

carved posts at $14,652.

An Amos Sewell signed mixed media illustration brought $690; an unsigned oil

on canvas of a Continental mountain scene, $1,150; a pair of Nineteenth

Century colored French prints of New York and New Jersey, $1,090; an unsigned

and unframed oil on canvas marinescape and ship figures, $1,150; an

outstanding framed and signed landscape by Henry P. Smith, $5,175; and a nice

oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman, unsigned, $540.

Collections of porcelain, glass and various decorative arts items did quite

well, with lots bringing from $25 to $6,275 for the bronze and dore bronze

statue of St George and the Dragon mounted on stone base with ivory face. A

pair of Old Paris vases sold for $810. A lovely Tiffany coffee pot went for

$475, and a set of 12 sterling English nut dishes, $425.

Lincoln Galleries will be opening for preview on Monday, March 15, with the

auction starting at 9 am on Tuesday, March 16. For information, 973/677-2000.
