Ray V. Tompkins, 68, of Newtown, died May 30, at Danbury Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Susan (Wrabel) Tompkins. He was born in Bridgeport, February 13, 1944, a son of Margaret (Hurley) Tompkins of New Milford and the late Ray Tompkins.
He retired from the Newtown Police Department with the rank of lieutenant after 20 years of service. Mr Tompkins previously was the owner of Superstar Sports in Newtown for many years and was currently the manager of Olympia Sports in New Milford. He had a passion for golf and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, survivors include his mother; a son, Scott Tompkins, and his wife Kathleen, of Sandy Hook; a daughter, Kimberly Tompkins and Scooter of Newtown; his cherished granddaughter Avery; and a sister, Carole Carroll, and her husband Bill, of Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 2. Interment will be private.
Funeral arrangements were in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
