Mary Margaret Phillips

Longtime Newtown Resident

Mary Margaret (Haight) Phillips, 92, of Newtown, died August 2, at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, October 13, 1918, daughter of Mary Margaret (Harrison) and Lugard S. Haight. She was the widow of John D. Phillips.

Mrs Phillips had been a resident of Newtown since 1954, and worked for many years at the former Steinbach’s Department Store in Danbury. She was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church, where she volunteered at the Cornerstone Thrift Shop.

Her son J. Anthony Phillips and his wife Sandra of New Milford; daughter Cathryn E. Phillips of Waterbury; brother Harrison J. Haight of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren survive Mrs Phillips.

A memorial service will be held at the Newtown Congregational Church, Saturday, August 13, at 11 am, immediately followed by a reception at the church. There are no calling hours. Private burial will be in Center Cemetery, Bethel.
