Photographer Arthur A. Anderson, 71, a longtime Newtown resident, died June 23, following a valiant struggle with ALS. Born in Ossining, N.Y., on October 13, 1937, he was the son of Dorothy and Arthur Anderson.
Following graduation from Ossining High School, Mr Anderson served with the US Army in Korea.
An avid photographer since his youth, he expanded his photographic experience during his Army service and upon returning home attended the Germain School of Photography in New York City. In 1968 he married Carole Johnston, who predeceased him.
He was employed for a number of years by Schlumberger-Doll in Ridgefield as a draftsman-designer and held other jobs in drafting and design. However, his main passion was photography. He was a longtime member of the Candlewood Camera Club in Danbury and served as its president, and representative to the New England Camera Club Council. He was also a member of the Flagpole Photographers.
Mr Andersonâs photographs have been displayed at exhibits throughout the Connecticut area and his work has been recognized with numerous awards. He was recently honored by the NECCC Executive Board as a Master Member of the New England Camera Club Council.
He was a devoted husband and loving father. His compassion, kindness, and wit endeared him to his family members and friends. He is survived by his son, Alan Anderson; his sister, Audrey Tobin and her husband, Joseph; nieces, cousins, and other beloved family members and friends.
