The Newtown Middle School Lady Lions softball team continued its winning ways last week, defeating both Broadview (17-8) and Rochambeau (19-3) to push their 2000 undefeated record right up to 8-0.
In the win over Broadview, Becca Narel banged out four hits (one a double and another a bunt single) to lead the offense. Christie Caruso, Erica Carino, Chrissy Glander, Jessica Duch, and Courtney Brunton had two hits apiece in the 20-hit attack.
Caruso, Duch and Brunton all tripled and Megan LaFlamme homered. Narel and Sara Blomberg combined on the mound, with Narel pitching the first five innings and striking out three batters. Blomberg pitched the final two, whiffing one.
Glander led the defense, catching a pop-up and throwing to third for a double play.
In the win over Rochambeau, Trina Ramsdell was 3-for-3 while Kaitlyn Fenton, Lauren Cascia, Narel (two doubles), Blomberg, Stacey Gordon and Carino all had two hits apiece to fuel the 22-hit attack. Ramsdell, LaFlamme, Erin Murdoch and Blomberg all had doubles. Blomberg also added a triple.
Lisa Morgan pitched a complete game, striking out six batters in five innings or work and also helping herself out by going 1-for-3 at the plate. Blomberg turned in a nice throw to Fenton at third to catch a would-be base stealer.
