Sometimes Memories Are
Made Of Steel And Chrome
Antique cars and antiques were among the offerings at Ashlar of Newtownâs Antique Car Show and Fair September 9 at its facility on Toddy Hill Road.
Antique cars, displayed by members of The Classic Nights Car Club in the front parking lot, attracted classic car lovers of all ages. From a classic VW bug to a 1960s era Thunderbird or Cadillac, hardtops and convertibles alike had many people remembering nostalgically cars they once owned in their youth.
Car owners proudly opened hoods to show off shiny, like-new engines. Dice dangled from rear-view mirrors, and under the front of one car, a small doll appeared to be changing the oil.
The Kenny Lee Orchestra and The Clam Diggers Dixieland Band provided music in the main tent during the event, and residents of Ashlar and visitors alike were toe tapping or dancing to tunes from the past.
Many of the event participants took a step back in time with a ride in an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage driven by Ken Wood of Terryville and his 12-year-old son, Dan.
Antiques vendors offered their wares in the main tent, and hot dogs and hamburgers were available for purchase behind the tent, with the grill manned by Ken Bass of Danbury and Colin Robertson of Newtown.
It was a day for memories.
