Mental Health Council To Meet Sept. 22

DANBURY — The Housatonic Mental Health Catchment Area Council #21 will hold its first meeting of the fall season on Thursday, September 22, from 3 to 5 pm. Meetings are held on the fourth Thursdays of the month in the large conference room at the GWMHA at 64 West Street.

This meeting will include a service system overview, with a presentation by the local mental health authority about all of the adult mental health services in the 11-town area. The public is invited to attend.

This catchment area council is one of 23 in the state, established by state statute to ensure that citizens from each town in Connecticut could be actively involved in the kind and quality of mental health services delivered. Each council is comprised of volunteer representatives appointed by the towns, persons in recovery, family members, and providers. These councils in turn elect representatives to the Regional Board, and those in turn to the state level. Responsibility of the council and its members includes review and evaluation of the area programs. As well as needs assessment and planning, education and advocacy.

At this time the council is seeking representatives from the towns of New Fairfield, New Milford, and Roxbury. Any person who might be interested is strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. For more information, call Janine Sullivan-Wiley at 757-9603.
