Hawksâ Baseball Highlights
The Newtown Hawksâ 10-year-old baseball highlights from this past week are as follows:
Monroe 15, Newtown Hawks 6: Monroe broke open a 5-4 game with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to defeat the Hawks. Standouts for the Hawks were Colin Patrick who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Paul Whitaker who was 1-for-2 and made a diving catch in the outfield.
Newtown Hawks 6, Middlebury 6: The Hawks rallied from a 6-1 deficit, scoring a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning in Route 84 league play. In the bottom of the sixth with the game tied, a runner on third and darkness falling, Paul Whitaker drove a ball to left-center but was robbed of a game-winning hit on a game-ending grab by the Middlebury centerfielder.
Kelland Chrystie was 2-for-3, including a game-tying RBI ground-rule double with two outs in the fifth inning. Austin LeBlanc was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Dan Pearson and Peter Clifford both had RBI doubles. Colin Patrick struck out four in two innings on the mound and Geoff Santore struck out five in two scoreless innings of relief.
