Newtown Man In Critical Condition Following Fiery Oxford Crash
OXFORD â A Newtown man was listed in critical but stable condition on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 23, in Waterbury Hospital following a serious motor vehicle accident on the night of Friday, August 18.
State police said Ernest J. Tykarski, 29, of 3 Diamond Drive was driving a 1987 Ford Mustang GT eastward on Georges Hill Road about 10:53 pm August 18, when he lost control of the auto and struck a tree alongside the westbound road shoulder.
After the impact, the Ford became engulfed in flames, state police said.
The burning auto was extinguished by an environmental police officer who came upon the accident scene, state police said.
Tykarski, who was alone in the auto, was extricated from the vehicle and was transported by Southbury Ambulance to Waterbury Hospital, state police said. Tykarski received severe injuries to his whole body, according to state police.
Tykarski had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The accident is under investigation.
