New CEO At St Vincent’s

BRIDGEPORT –– Susan L. Davis has been appointed president and chief executive officer for St Vincent’s Medical Center and St Vincent’s Health Services, a member of Ascension Health, St Louis, Mo., and New York Presbyterian Healthcare, New York.

Dr Davis comes to St Vincent’s from Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., after an 18-year career including service as the medical center’s CEO for the past three years.

Sr Margaret John Kelly, chairperson of the board of directors for St Vincent’s, said that Dr Davis was the unanimous choice of the board after a lengthy national search and will assume her responsibilities on February 16.

Dr Davis received a bachelor of science in nursing from Mt Saint Mary College, Newburgh, N.Y., a master of arts in nursing administration and doctorate of education from Columbia University with an emphasis on management. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives, as well as many other professional affiliations.

Dr Davis will lead St Vincent’s Health Services, an integrated system of care that includes Hall-Brooke Behavioral Services in Westport, St Vincent’s Special Needs Services in Trumbull, St Vincent’s Foundation, and St Vincent’s College. In 2003, St Vincent’s celebrated its centennial year and looked to the future by opening a new 70,000-square-foot entrance and outpatient pavilion.

“Dr Davis has demonstrated throughout her career a solid understanding of the importance of relating mission and margin,” Sr Kelly said. “The Board of Directors was impressed with her demonstrated executive ability, her goal of excellent clinical outcomes, and her commitment to high quality patient care. We were also impressed with the effective working relationships she maintained with medical and nursing staffs.”

Since 1992, Dr Davis has served in senior management roles at Vassar Brothers Medical Center including vice president of nursing, executive vice president and chief operating officer, and since 2001, president and chef executive officer. In her role there, she developed and implemented a variety of successful clinical services, including a new regional heart center for residents of the upstate New York area.

St Vincent’s Medical center is a licensed 397-bed facility with a medical staff of more than 450 physicians and 1,800 employees. For information about the medical center and its affiliates, call the Careline toll-free at 877-255-SVHS or visit the website at www.stvincents.org.
