Route 34 Collision

Police report a two-car accident on westbound Route 34 at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road about 6:30 pm May 10.

Police said motorist Kara Pressley, 18, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1988 Nissan Sentra, struck the rear end of a 1999 Honda CRV driven by Kathleen A. Weinzierl, 38, of Brookfield.

There were no injuries. Police issued Pressley a written warning for following too closely.

Rear-End Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision on westbound Route 34 about 7 pm May 5.

Police said motorist Caitlin Curry Capon, 16, of 40 Hundred Acres Road, who was driving a 1995 Saturn SL-I, struck the rear end of a 1996 Toyota Camry driven by Ruth E. Hunt, 72, of 43 Bennetts Bridge Road. There were no injuries.

Police issued Capon a written warning for following too closely.

Auto Vs Pole

Police report motorist Anne Marie A. Christiansen, 20, of 4 Fawnwood Road, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy about 11:45 am May 12, made a turn and slid into a utility pole near the southerly intersection of South Main Street and Pecks Lane.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident scene but Ms Christiansen refused transport, police said.

Police issued her a written warning for making an improper turn.

I-84 Crash

State police report motorist Gregory R. Pagel, 34, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Acura Integra in the left lane of eastbound Interstate-84 west of Exit 9 on May 9, lost control of the auto and struck the median guardrail.

Pagel was not injured, state police said.

Infant Alone

Police report they received a call about noon May 17 alerting them that an infant about six months old had been left unattended in a minivan in the parking lot of the Grand Union supermarket on Queen Street.

 Police said they found the infant sitting in a car seat in the minivan, which was unlocked and had a window open for ventilation.

Police said an investigation showed that the mother of the child, Anastasia Batzer, 36, of 5 Lafayette Trail, had left the child unattended while she shopped for groceries in the supermarket.

Police charged Ms Batzer with leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle, which is a Class A misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court May 31 to answer the charge.

Old Mill Road

Police report motorist Vincent Cavaliere, Jr, 53, of Monroe, who was driving a 1991Ford Bronco westbound on Route 34 about 7 am May 12, suddenly encountered a westbound vehicle ahead of him which was stopped, waiting to turn left onto Old Mill Road.

Mr Cavaliere applied the brakes but began to slide on the wet roadway and left the road, coming to rest on a stone wall, police said. Mr Cavaliere was not injured, police said. Police verbally warned him for making an improper turn.

Tractor-Trailer

Tractor-trailer trucker Eric T. Warford, 35, of Romney, Indiana, while making a U-turn on Riverside Road about 6 am May 9, struck a utility pole, knocking down power lines, police said. Warford was not injured. Police issued him an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Church Hill Road

While turning left from westbound Church Hill Road into the Blue Colony Diner parking lot about 7:20 am May 9, motorist Robert A. Blees, 77, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., who was driving a 1998 camper, struck the rear end of a stopped eastbound 2000 Saturn SL-1 driven by Jean J. Terry, 46, of 29 Brookwood Drive, who was waiting for a red light, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Blees a written warning for making a restricted turn.
