Fall Beautification A Great Success At NMS

By Paul Ashey

The cool autumn air blew through the raked leaves and the brand new garden by the C-wing office entrance on Saturday, October 21. Yes, all in all the 2000-2001 Fall Beautification at Newtown Middle School was a great success as well as a wonderful help to the school itself.

Not only this, but the results from the beautification were very hard earned. In fact, the time allotment that was set aside for the beautification exceeded the two hours it was supposed to be due to the hard working members of the student council. Which brings me right to the next point; these devoted reps and officers (as well as teachers and parents) were Amber Butler, Kyle Lyddy, Steve Giacolone, Amanda Klabonski, Mrs Mulholland, Mr Esposito, Kaltrina Sedaliu, Zack Silver, Mr Silver, and myself. Now I must stop right here and tell you that even though we all worked very hard, Mr Silver was going at it for a good portion of time, and he was really giving it his all. Mr Silver helped in numerous ways as he dug deep with his shovel and cleared out the flowerbed.

Speaking of which, the flowerbed consisted of more than four types of flowers from Lexington Gardens. I hope you will all enjoy seeing them grow and blossom in the spring!

Also, if you’re wondering why we devoted time from our “precious Saturdays,” my answer to you is simple. For one thing, to get our two hours of community service completed, and for another, to help the school to not only look a whole lot nicer, but to make it more pleasing for the students and teachers. That, I believe is the whole purpose of Student Council, to make the school a better place for all, in any way we can.

(Paul Ashey is a middle school student who is the treasurer of the Student Council.)
