At A Fun Family Fair
The Parish Nurse Ministry of St Rose Church held a Family Safety Fair on Saturday, June 3, featuring demonstrations and safety tips.
Many parents took advantage of the Fairfield County Safe Kids program at which residentsâ child safety seats were checked out to ensure they are being properly used.
The Newtown Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company displayed fire apparatus, including its aerial truck, with its towering ladder, which firefighters would climb to demonstrate how height is used as an advantage in fighting fires.
Police Youth Officer Dana Schubert attended, providing tips to the public on how to stay safe. Officer Schubert distributed free trigger locks for firearms. He demonstrated fingerprinting.
State police demonstrated their motor vehicle accident simulator known as âThe Convincer.â The device simulates the effects of a low-speed accident.
 Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members displayed an ambulance and answered questions from the public about their work.
The safety fair also included exhibits displayed inside the parish hall.
The Newtown Parks and Recreation Department explained swimming pool safety.
The ITT Hartford insurance firm provided information on safety in the home.
The UConn Poison Control Center provided many brochures to promote public awareness of the hazards of toxic substances.
