CWU Planning WDP

The Newtown-Bethel chapter of Church Women United (CWU) is planning a World Day of Prayer service for Friday, March 3, at 1 pm. It will be at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, and all are welcome.

World Day of Prayer is an international event that united Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women and men in over 170 countries in prayer. The theme of this year’s WDP service, which was written by women in South Africa, is “Signs of The Times.”

The service will include hymns Scripture readings, an offering and a collection for CWU’s Fellowship of The Least Coin, and a presentation by Peace Corp volunteer Laura Hickey. Ms Hickey will talk about the HIV/AIDS situation in Zambia and in the southern region of Africa.

She will also discuss her experiences as a Peace Corp volunteer. The Newtown High School graduate (’96) served as a community health educator for more than 2 ½ years, and then served as a technical trainer for the first group of HIV/AIDS Peace Corp volunteers hosted in Zambia.

For additional information contact the NCC church office, 426-9024. Additional information will be in upcoming issues of The Bee.
