Home Front Project A Joint Effort By Gordon Williams
To the Editor:
I would like to take a moment to thank the people who were involved in a recent Home Front project. It was a joint project of the Newtown Lions and the Newtown Congregational Church. Eight Lions participated and nine Congregational Church members, as well as assorted friends and Linda Duffy, the VNA social worker from Bethel. Gary Fillian, my co-chair, provided excellent leadership in the many things that needed to be fixed or carried away in the house. All our group worked very hard for about five hours and filled two dumpsters.
These giant dumpsters were provided by Patrick Russo, one of them unexpectedly. We really appreciated Mr Russo's kindness in letting us use his dumpsters. We also appreciate Jeff Dymenti, manager-owner of our local Dunkin' Donuts, for getting the day started off well with excellent coffee and munchies. Finally, I don't want to forget the ladies of the Congregational Church, who filled us with an abundance of sandwiches and cookies.
We would like to also thank Newtown Overhead Door, who gave us a real bargain on equipment to repair the garage door.
The Lions' motto is "We Serve," and the Lions, the church and friends certainly did that that day.
Many thanks,
Gordon Williams
