Dinner For Bill Marsilio

 

A fundraising dinner to help raise funds for the bone marrow transplant of Bill Marsilio will be held Sunday, May 7, from 1 to 6 pm, at the Fireside Inn on South Main Street. It will be an afternoon of dining and dancing to help raise money toward the medical and related living expenses for Bill’s life-saving bone marrow transplant. The cost per plate is $60. Or you can send a tax deductible donation to SVMC Foundation, Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, 06606 (in care of Bill Marsilio). Women’s Softball Signup

 

The Newtown Women’s Softball League will be having sign-ups on Thursday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 22, from 6 to 8 pm at the Newtown Middle School cafeteria. In order to be eligible to play, you must be 18 years of age (by June 1), a Newtown resident (or work in Newtown). Proof of residency must be shown. If one individual plans to register an entire team, a roster must be submitted with proof of residency for each player. A $5 registration fee is required. Youth Lacrosse Coaches Sought

 

The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association is seeking coaches for its boys’ and girls’ teams. Experience in the game is helpful, but not required. Openings are in the girls’ 3rd through 6th grade level and the boys’ 3rd through 8th grade level. Call Ken Law at 270-3905 or Tom D’Agostino at 426-4133 for further information.

Watertown 5K Road Race

 

The annual Watertown 5K Road Race to benefit Project Graduation will be held Sunday, April 9, at 1 pm, at Veterans Memorial Park on Nova Scotia Hill Road in Watertown (kids’ race will start at 12:15 pm). Entry fee for adults is $12 in advance, $15 on the day of the race. Students’ fee is $10 while kids pay $2 and walkers $5. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each of eight age divisions and t-shirts will be presented to the first 200 runners registering. Table Tennis Anyone?

 

Local resident Tony DeCarlo is looking for people willing to start up a table tennis program on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 pm. Participants should be over 21 years of age and can call Mr DeCarlo at 426-5669 for further information.

Turkey Hunting Seminar

 

A Wild Turkey Hunting Safety Seminar will be held on Saturday, March 25, from 8:30 am to 12 noon, at the Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area Conservation Education Center on Route 69 in Burlington. If you plan to hunt the elusive wild turkey this spring, don’t miss this presentation. Mike Gregonis, DEP Wildlife Biologist, will discuss the wild turkey’s history, natural history and hunting regulations. Conservation Education/Firearms Safety Senior Instructors Gary Bennet and Ray Hanley will cover turkey hunting techniques and safety. Pre-register for the program by calling 1-860-675-8130. The program is free of charge. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

YMCA Night At Ravens Game

 

A YMCA Night at a New Haven Ravens Double-A baseball game is planned for Saturday, May 13. Tickets are $9 each and include a reserved seat for the game, complimentary ballpark frank and Pepsi, a gift of a commemorative frisbee, and a fireworks demonstration. A portion of the ticket price will be donated to the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut’s Campership Fund. This family event will also feature a youth from each Connecticut YMCA throwing out the first pitch and the National Anthem being sung by a YMCA volunteer.
