Parks & Rec Planning For Halloween

Newtown Parks & Recreation Department has a few pre-Halloween events coming up, with offerings for the town’s children (of all ages) and canines.

On Saturday, October 22, the 2011 Howl-o-Ween, a party to benefit Park & Bark, will be held at Fairfield Hills. Residents are invited to bring their dogs, in costume, for a fundraiser to benefit the future off-leash dog park. There will be prizes for Best Costume, Scariest Costume, Cutest Costume, Owner Look-Alike, and Longest Sit.

Contests will include a relay race, Red Light-Green Light, bobbing for hot dogs, and a treasure hunt.

The event will run from 11 am until 1pm, and admission is a $10 tax deductible donation per dog. Refreshments for dogs and their people will be provided.

For more information on Friends of Newtown Park & Bark or to volunteer visit www.NewtownParkAndBark.org.

During the following week a pair of children’s parties will be hosted by members of the Parks & Rec department.

A Halloween Pizza Party for ages 8 and under will be held on Thursday, October 27, at Dickinson Park, on Elm Drive. Children should come dressed as their favorite character and plan to enjoy fun and games. A hay ride will end the event, which will run from 4 to 5:30 that afternoon.

Registration is requested and cost is $1 per person plus a bag of candy (to be distributed among the Main Street homes in time for Trick or Treating). Visit newtown-ct.gov, follow the links to the Parks & Recreation department and then register for activity number 114102A.

Another Halloween party, for children in grades 5–6, will be held at The Garage/Teen Center, 53A Church Hill Road, on Friday, October 28, from 7 until 9:30 pm.

Cost for that party is $7 and space is limited to 100 participants so registration is required; visit the Parks & Rec website or call 203-270-4373.
