Arlene Maude Andrews

Arlene Maude (MacGregor) Andrews, 97, of Bethel, died at Ashlar of Newtown on December 18. She is the widow of John Clark Andrews, Sr.

Mrs Andrews is survived by three children, John Clark Andrews, Jr, of Newtown, Robert Keeler Andrews of Bethel, and Carol Lynn Andrews of Miami; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was born May 28, 1908, in Waltham, Mass., a daughter of Merton and Maude (Harris) MacGregor. Mrs Andrews attended school in Leominster and Fitchburg, Mass., and Waterbury. She had been a resident of Bethel since 1937.

During World War II Mrs Andrews was chief observer for the Aircraft Warning Service in Bethel. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader and was a volunteer at Danbury Hospital. She was an avid poetry writer and was a member of the Homer World Wide Association.

A memorial service will be held in the Newtown Congregational Church at a later date.
