About The Cover
Kimberly Day Proctor created this yearâs Christmas cover for us. Ms Proctor, a former Newtown resident who now lives in Southbury, is an artist and landscape designer.
Ms Proctor earned her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. She has been working as a landscape designer and freelance illustrator in Connecticut for the last 30 years. Ms Proctorâs line illustrations can be seen in a number of locations, including most recently Gardening for a Lifetime, a gardening memoir by Sydney Eddison that was released earlier this year.
Her illustrations have also appeared in Gardens to Go, an earlier publication by Ms Eddison, and numerous catalog, newsletter, and advertisements for Oliver Nurseries of Fairfield and Twombly Nursery of Monroe. Her prints and paintings have appeared in galleries throughout the Northeast.
Her projects in design have been residential, corporate, and public, including the initial concept and garden installation at The Pleasance, a park owned and maintained by The Newtown Bee. When Helen and Scudder Smith decided to create a public park and garden for the residents of Newtown in 1997, they turned to Ms Proctor for some early help. Ms Proctorâs plans helped tie the expanse of the property at 1 Main Street together with plantings, paths, steps and berms.
