Apprentice Wins Cal Ripken Championship
The Apprentice won the 11-12 year old Cal Ripken Baseball championship with a win over the Blue Devils this past week. Playoff highlights and league award information is as follows:
Blue Devils 4, Wizards 3: Robbie Lombardo hustled home on Adam Beckettâs game winning single for the winning run in a hard fought victory for the Devils. Will Huegi started the bottom of the sixth trailing by a run with a walk. He stole second and third and scampered home on a wild pitch to tie the score. Lombardo followed with a sharp single to center to set up Beckettâs game winner. Robbie Laporta picked up the win for the Blue Devils. Jimmie Davies pitched an outstanding game, going five strong innings for the Wizards. Eugene Citrano continued his hitting tear with three hits, while Evan Kohlsaat drove in a run for the Wizards in defeat.
Apprentice 8, Purple Ponyoâs 6: Timely hitting by Jason Hebner and Pete Debona led the Apprentice to the championship game. Ethan Aug pitched well for the victory while Hebner nailed down the save. Great plays by Danny Grosso and the hitting of Ben Terry, David Kohler led the Ponyoâs
Apprentice 8, Blue Devils 3: The Apprentice won the championship with a flawless game of defense and pitching. Pete Debona, the league MVP, struck out the last 5 blue Devils to ensure Jason Hebner of a victory. Harry Eppers, the leagues top sportsman, hustled out a hit to start a five-run rally. Tim Davis and Ethan Aug shined in the field for the Apprentice to ensure a championship. Adam Beckett led the Blue Devils hitting all day, going 5-for-5 in two games. Robbie Lombardo, Robbie Laporta, and Easton Ricks led a fine attack for the Blue Devils in defeat. Adam Manes shined in the field for the Devils.
