Last Chance To Make History (Camp)

Plans are revving up for the fourth and hopefully the best History Camp ever. Sponsored by Newtown Historical Society, the camp will run Monday through Friday, July 20–24, from 10 am until 1 pm each day, at the Matthew Curtiss House, 44 Main Street.

Students will learn about 18th Century life and tasks for children as well as the many games they played such as hoops and sack races. Campers will make their own marbles, paint them and then play marble games like our ancestors did.

Projects will also include making bricks, including mashing the clay with bare feet, painting pictures, and weaving baskets. The group will also visit Newtown Meeting House and learn something about Newtown history, as well as play a game while there.

Refreshments will be served every day, some of which will be made by campers, such as berry pies, butter, lemonade, and ice cream.

Camp is for children between ages 8 and 10 and costs $150 per child. Space is limited to ten campers in order to guarantee a rich hands-on experience.

If interested call Gordon Williams at 426-6443 for more information or to enroll. “But hurry,” Mr Williams said this week, “for there are only two spaces left.”
