'Pearl Earring' Book Discussion
âPearl Earringâ Book Discussion
BETHEL â On Tuesday, June 19, from 7:30 to 9 pm, Bethel Public Libraryâs monthly book discussion group will be focusing on Girl With a Pearl Earring, by Tracy Chevalier.
Opening in 1664 in the European town of Delft, the novel draws on the real painting of the same title by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. It centers on a 16-year-old girl who becomes a maid in the Vermeer household and thematically explores religion and social structure.
Critically acclaimed in print publications everywhere, Girl With a Pearl Earring was recognized for its appeal to both adult and young adult readers.
Registration for the program is suggested. Programs sponsored by Bethel Public Library are free, open to the public, and meet accessibility requirements for the disabled. The library, at 189 Greenwood Avenue, can be reached by calling 794-8756.
