In ceremonies before their January 5 meeting, Police Commission members
recognized the long careers and accomplishments of two men who have retired
from the Newtown Department of Police Services -- Captain Michael Fekete and
Sergeant John Qubick.
Both men received plaques commemorating their years of service.
Mr Fekete retired from the department one year ago. Mr Qubick retired last
April.
Mr Fekete served as an auxiliary police officer from 1967 to 1969. In 1969, he
became a constable. He was promoted to sergeant in 1972, became a lieutenant
in 1983 and was named captain in 1989. He served as acting police chief from
February to July of 1996, retiring as a captain on December 31, 1997.
Mr Qubick was a member of the police department for 28 years, having joined
the constabulary in January 1970. He was one of the founding members of the
department. He served as a patrolman, youth officer and detective before
becoming a sergeant in December 1974.
Both men received numerous commendations during their careers with the police
department.
