Landscapes As Visual Abstractions
WOODBURY â Susan Monserudâs latest exhibit of abstract landscape oil paintings opens at the gallery of Woodbury Antiques & Fine Art, 473 Main Street South in Woodbury, on Saturday, May 24. A reception will be presented from 3 to 5 pm, and the public is invited.
The exhibit features unique selections of Ms Monserudâs past and present work reflecting local images of the rural Litchfield County landscape. With an talent that transforms landscapes into visual abstractions, her art suggests movement beyond the confines of the painting oils.
Susan Monserudâs landscapes depict the vibrancy and energy of nature and transform rural landscapes into a dazzling visual and emotional display that captures the â Rhythm of the Forestâ through many layers of stroke and color.
Art and design have been the focus of her entire career, first through art as a student and teacher, then as an architect with expertise in health care facility planning and design throughout the US and abroad, and then again as an artist graduating from art school in Norway with studies in oils and fine art.
Recent shows include solo shows in New York at Klavierhaus, in Woodbury and Roxbury, Conn., and also at Washington Art Associationâs Annual Membersâ Show. Her paintings hang in corporate and private collections throughout New England, Washington and the Midwest. She lives and works in Roxbury, with her husband the architect Ric Sonder.
