Making Strides Set For Oct 15

Judy Volpe of Avance Esthetiques Day Spa in Newtown is still gathering volunteers to walk in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk that will be held on October 15 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.

Ms Volpe’s team of walkers will step off at 11 am. This will be the sixth year that she has served as an area coordinator and fielded a team for the American Cancer Society event that raises money for cancer research, support programs, and public education and awareness.

The annual event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month is non-competitive and can be anywhere from one to five miles. The proceeds of the event are raised by donations from people who sponsor the walkers, not by the number of miles walked.

A tailgate party traditionally follows the walk. The event usually is over by 1:30 pm. For more information on walking for cancer, or to make a donation, call Ms Volpe at 270-8911.
