The US Is Dangerously Close To Repeating A Very Ugly Chapter Of International History
To the Editor:
Homeland Security has put in place procedures, in accordance with Trump's anti-immigration policies, that give ICE the license to invade schools, hospitals, and now courts in dragnet operations to apprehend undocumented immigrants.
ICE personnel have started scanning court dockets for cases that might involve undocumented persons, including victims of crimes.
Arrests have been made by ICE agents right outside the Bridgeport Superior Court. Stakeouts have been mounted both outside and inside court buildings in our country. California's Chief Justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauye, has accused ICE agents of stalking California's court buildings.
Last October, an undocumented child, age 10, was abducted by ICE agents following her surgery, as soon as she was judged able to travel ... these agents waited just outside her hospital room to grab her. ICE learned of her undocumented status at an ICE checkpoint, where they stopped the ambulance taking her to a hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Outrageous! Are we tolerating such checkpoints in this country? Are we tolerating the hunting down and snatching of persons innocent of any crime?
Are we still a Democracy? Will we tolerate agencies, permitted, by Presidential orders, to act as "Brownshirts" did in the 1930s while Hitler climbed to power?!
