I-84 Crash Leads To Multiple Charges

State police report they arrested a Danbury man on multiple charges on October 15 following a motor vehicle accident that he caused on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10.

Motorist Santo Bordonaro, 61, of Cromwell was driving a 2008 GMC Savanna commercial van eastward on Interstate 84, west of the Exit 10 off-ramp, when he stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Alfredo Yunga, 27, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Nissan Sentra, state police said. There were no injuries in that accident, according to state police.

After that collision occurred, Yunga illegally drove away from the scene of the accident and became involved in another motor vehicle accident in Bethel, after which he also left the scene of that crash, state police said.

Newtown police then located and stopped Yunga in Newtown, turning him over to state police.

In connection with the first accident, state police charged Yunga with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to have automotive insurance, driving without a license, and following too closely. State police later released him on $1,000 bail for an October 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Bethel police took custody of Yunga to investigate the Bethel accident. Yunga was then arrested on charges of evading responsibility, failure to have automotive insurance, and failure to obey a stop sign, according to Bethel police.
