Area Blood Drives Set For May 1–2

The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive on Saturday, May 1, from 8 am to 1 pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 330 Main Street, Danbury (next to the bus station).

Appointments are in 15-minute increments and begin at 8 am. All interested donors should contact Pam Young at 794-9234 for an appointment. The blood drive is sponsored by the church, which has its main building on Saw Mill Road in Newtown.

There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday, May 2, from 9 am until 2 pm at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North in Southbury. Each donor will be given a specific appointment time.

This is the second annual blood drive sponsored by Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut. The Federation’s goal is to have 100 people give blood that day. To register, call the Federation at 267-3177.

Any healthy person at least 17 years of age, weighing at least 110 pounds, can donate blood every 56 days. There is no upper age limit. Just one pint of donated blood can help save the lives of several people. Much of today’s medical care depends on a steady supply of blood from healthy donors.
