Newtowner, YMCA Exec, Tapped To Lead Bridgeport Chamber

Newtown resident Timothy J. Bartlett has accepted the role as incoming chairman of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, an affiliate of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC). Mr Bartlett assumed his new duties January 1, according to Gail Solis, current executive director of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.

“In taking the reigns of the Bridgeport Chamber, Tim Bartlett will now lead the volunteer board in ushering in a new work plan focusing on small business growth and the education system here in the city,” Ms Solis said.

Mr Bartlett currently serves as the executive director of the Bridgeport YMCA, a 126-year-old service agency with a 35,000-square-foot facility on Park Avenue, three licensed inner-city sites, and seven after school program centers. The YMCA serves more than 1,200 children ages 6–13 five days per week.

Previous to his four years at the YMCA, Mr Bartlett spent seven years with the BRBC as the director of membership and technology services, and executive director of the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce.

“I am very happy to come full circle in my association with the BRBC and very much look forward to working with the volunteer team in creating greater growth and opportunities for Bridgeport’s business community,” he said in a release.

In addition, Mr Bartlett serves as a committee member for the Bridgeport Public Education Fund, the Bridgeport Non-Profit Council, the Bridgeport Lighthouse Program Advisory Committee, the Bridgeport Alliance for Young Children, a Bridgeport Rotarian, and volunteer with the Bridgeport School Volunteer Association.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, he received his Institute of Organizational Management certification from the US Chamber of Commerce in 2003. Formally from Monroe, Mr Bartlett now resides in the Botsford area of Newtown with his wife Holly and their two children.
