The Rest Of The Story

To the Editor:

“Create an Integrated Long Range Plan and ongoing planning process by October 2009” reads a pamphlet. It would be a good idea if it wasn’t already happening. The Long Range Strategic Planning Committee has been under construction since 2006 and its work anticipated to be completed during 2008, not October 2009. Our first selectman, Herb Rosenthal, has long increased citizen participation in the planning process:

Town Space Needs Committee, 1998

Land Use Task Force, 1998

Public Works Study Committee, 1999

Fairfield Hills Task Force, 1999

Open Space Committee, 2001

Fairfield Hills Master Plan Advisory Committee, 2002

Cultural Arts Study Committee, 2003

Fairfield Hills Management Committee, 2004

Energy Task Force, 2007

Of course this doesn’t include the Plan of Conservation and Development, and the master plan, and the Plan of Economic Development, and the Capital Improvement Plan, all ongoing planning tools as well. So when someone says there’s “no town planning”… Well, as J. Paul Harvey would say “And now you know the rest of the story.” Thanks, Herb Rosenthal.
