Madeleine Friel

Madeleine (Kendall) Friel, 88, wife of the late John V. Friel, of 2341 41st Street, Gainesville Fla., formerly of Newtown, died June 26 in Gainesville.

The Newtown Scholarship Association holds a golf tournament annually in honor of her late husband.

She was born in New York City, Oct 6, 1912, daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Jones) Kendall. A resident of Gainesville, Fla., since 1991, she had lived in Newtown for many years prior to moving to Florida.

She is survived by one son, Michael K. Friel and his wife, Jacqueline, of Gainesville, Fla.; and a grandson, Jonathan Friel.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Leslie M. Friel.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose of Lima Church at 10 am. Interment will be in St Rose Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, July 2, between 7 and 9 pm.
