Harold W. Hastedt
Harold W. Hastedt, 73, husband of Elizabeth (Kayarian) Hastedt of Monroe, died January 18 at home following a long illness. Born in Bronx, N.Y. on January 15, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Kate (Ording) Hastedt.
 He was the father of John Hastedt of Sandy Hook.
Mr Hastedt was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and a Monroe resident for 38 years. He worked for the Eaton Corp, formerly the Consolidated Controls Corp of Bethel, as a manager of design and drafting for 28 years before retiring in 1989.
He was a member and past president of the CT Model Airplane Club. He won numerous awards for designing and building model airplanes. His proudest achievement was designing and building a scale model of the Sikorsky Russian S-16 bi-plane, now on display in the Russian Polytechnic Institute in Moscow. This model was presented in May 1999 to the Sikorsky Archives of the Moscow Polytechnic Museum on the 110th anniversary of Igor Sikorskyâs birthday. Mr Hastedt also enjoyed painting, sketching and woodworking. He was an accomplished builder of grandfather clocks.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by his children, Kenneth Hastedt of Milford, Jayne Hastedt of San Carlos, Calif. and Karen Gilronan of Darien; grandchildren, Lauren, Eric and Kyle Hastedt of Sandy Hook, Allen Rice of Cheshire, Jeff Rice of Milford, Kira and Kaelen Ghandhi of California and Sherry and Trevor Gilronan of Darien. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 9 am in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe, with Pastor George Britt officiating. Interment will follow in St John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 8 pm.
