What Did You Learn This Summer?
A glance inside the mailbox this month reveals back-to-school flyers filled with glossy images of fashionable jeans and sneakers. The early advertisements may be a reminder to finish summer reading lists before the first day of classes in Newtownâs public schools on August 28, but also prompt one question specifically: What did you learn this summer?
With a new school semester approaching comes thoughts of textbooks, homework, and pop quizzes. Knowledge does not strike only between kindergarten and high school or college graduation, however. Learning can occur simply by turning over a shell at the beach and seeing an unfamiliar creature, or maybe the unexplored culture that becomes familiar by the end of a history book.
What did you discover during a trip to a museum, vacation to another state, or a hike through the woods? The Newtown Bee would like to hear about any new knowledge you may have received in exchange for paying attention to a camp counselor, finally finishing a genealogy chart, signing up for piano lessons, or by coincidence.
