Sloppy Recycling
Sloppy Recycling
To the Editor:
I am writing in response to the article in last weekâs Newtown Bee regarding âFine-Tuning Recycling in Newtown.â
Yesterday when I drove down my street after the recycling truck came and picked up our share of the recycling load in Newtown, my family and I counted 16 items that either did not make it into the truck or flew out of the truck as it sailed down the road. This is not the first time this has happened, therefore I called the recycling program in Newtown again and was informed that there are two companies that are contracted to pick up recycling in our town. They are supposed to have tarps that cover the recycling to keep it from falling out of the truck, which I have never witnessed in our neighborhood. There were two solutions, one to have the company come back and pick up the debris or two, call the police to follow the truck and cite them for littering (which has to be immediately witnessed in order for a infraction to occur).
We need better quality control on the companies we hire in Newtown to pick up our recycling, or the whole town will look like a landfill.
