Edmond Town Hall Theatre has installed new assistive listening and captioning devices that will make movies and live performances more accessible for theater patrons with special hearing or visual needs. Due to the matching donation from a local family, the Board of Managers was able to install six assistive listening and four captioning devices.edmondtownhall.org for more information.

The devices provide both listening assistance and captions for those with hearing impairments, as well as descriptive narrative, which is useful for people with visual impairments. Patrons who wish to use the devices can sign them out at the ticket booth and return them after the movie.

The old devices were designed for use prior to the theater's conversion to digital technology in 2014 and did not provide captioning or descriptive narrative assistance.

"Although our donors chose to remain anonymous, we are very grateful for their assistance in helping us match the cost of providing this service to our patrons." said Margot Hall, chairman of the board.

The Edmond Town Hall, completed in 1931 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was a gift from Newtown benefactress Mary Elizabeth Hawley. The building's iconic 500-seat theater is Connecticut's only $3 movie house, which in addition to movies, offers recitals, comedy shows, and other live performances.

The Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers is a group of electors responsible for the planning and oversight of the iconic building. Visit
