Don't Let The Band Pass You By!
Donât Let The Band Pass You By!
To the Editor,
On October 15th, the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band and the NHS Band and Color Guard parents hosted the Second Annual Joseph P. Grasso Band Festival. This was a great evening and a chance for our town to see just how talented and dedicated our student band members are. My question to you is, Where was The Bee? You missed a great opportunity to showcase the local talent! Many pages are dedicated, the week after, to the sporting abilities of our youth, but surely you must realize that not all of Newtown students play competitive sports.
Our band members can spend well over 20 hours a week practicing their instruments and Color Guard routines. Those students who have been chosen to be Drum Majors, Section Leaders or Color Guard Captains commit even more hours to run sectionals and special practices. I invite you to spend a few hours with these students in their last week of Marching Band Season. Better yet, come to the last home game this weekend, on Friday night. I know you will be impressed.
